Charles’ work also garnered a makeup Emmy in 1996 for TNT's Kissinger
and Nixon, and in 2000, he received a Saturn award nomination (Science
Fiction Academy Award) for his work on The
Sixth Day starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Additionally, The CNoMA (Canadian
Network of Makeup Artists) for ‘Best Special Effects Makeup Artist for Film
and Television’ was awarded to Charles in 2003 for his work on Door
to Door, when he was again simultaneously nominated in the ‘Best
Make-Up Artist for a Feature Film’ category for his reprise on Tim Allen in The
Santa Clause 2.
Having well refined skills in all areas of makeup, Charles’
extensive list of production credits reflects that. It include numerous
projects as Make-Up Department Head, as on the recent Universal musical Connie
and Carla and as a Key Make-Up Effects Artist, as on X-Men
II, where he helped to create the look for Alan Cumming’s Night
Crawler character. His work may also be seen in other top box office hits like
The
Santa Clause, Thirteen Ghosts, The
Sixth Day, Mission to Mars, Double
Jeopardy and Jumanji
to name a few.
A sought-after educator devoted to teaching both the business and
the craft of screen makeup, Charles’ industry experience is much in demand.
He manages a busy schedule as both an artist and repeat guest at schools and
universities, where he is called upon to share his broad knowledge base.
Often, his commentaries are included on the DVD releases of popular films that
feature his work.
Charles has been a keynote speaker at the Annual International
Make-Up Tradeshow (IMATS) in Pasadena, California and is a regular contributor
for publications such as Flare
and Makeup Artist Magazine. He
is also currently the Head of the Makeup Design Program at Vancouver Film
School in Vancouver, Canada.
