| About
Jimmy:
"I became interested in special make-up effects at a very young age.
Like many other make-up artists, I was fascinated by the creatures in
horror movies like the Exorcist, American Werewolf in London and
A Nightmare on Elm Street." (More about

before "biker" makeup. |

3.)
This
is a picture of a biker make-up that I did on my Dad for my
portfolio. I
used
a GM foam bald cap. I applied it using Telesis 5 Silicone
Adhesive. The Telesis 5 works extremely well for
matting down the hair. The Make-up was colored using a
combination of Skin Illustrator and Thom Surprenant's
pax paint. The main Illustrator colors I used were Natural
1 & 2, Rice Paper, Cedar Brown, and
Rose Adjuster 2. I used Coral blue and Vein
Tone for the shaved head effect and beard stubble. I hand
laid the goatee using Telesis 5. I removed the
make-up using Super Solv Plus and cleaned his skin with Brisk. |

4.)
I did this old-age make-up on a
family friend for my portfolio.
For this
make-up I made three foam latex appliances. They are the sides of
the face and a neck piece. I applied these pieces using Telesis
5 Adhesive and sealed the edges with Beta Bond.

 |
5.)
The coloring
was done using a combination of Tom Surprenant's
pax paints and Skin Illustrator. I removed the appliances
with Super Solv Plus followed by a light coat of Brisk
astringent to get rid of the oily residue. |
 |
6.)
Inspired by Jordu Schell's maquetts, I sculpted this
character so I could put it on display in my studio. The sculpture
is done in Super Sculpey and is very small; probably 4 inches in
height and 7 inches in length from the back of the foot to the
hand. |
 |
7.)
I painted the sculpture using very subtle washes of Skin
Illustrator, followed by baking it. |

9.) Full time Dad and makeup model
Jim Soltis is among the most worked and unpaid models in the
industry. Jimmy aged his Dad 25-30 years in the photos
below. |
 |
10.) "I used 3 foam latex appliances: nasal labial folds, and a subtle neckpiece. I glued
these appliances down with my favorite adhesive Telesis 5 and sealed the edges with
Beta Bond. The makeup was painted with Thom Surprenant's Pax
paint formula and Skin Illustrator. To remove the
appliances I used Super Solv Plus because it removes the appliances quickly and easily and it doesn't
require a large amount of the product". |
 |
11.)
"Super Solv Plus is extremely gentle on the skin and is perfect
for use on someone like my father who has very sensitive skin and many
allergies. It also has a pleasant smell. Once all the makeup is removed I
like to use a little bit of Brisk astringent on the skin to remove any
residual Super Solv and freshen the actor's skin. It has a great smell,
easy on the skin and the actor can leave the makeup chair with their face
feeling nice and refreshed". |
 |
12.)
In late 2002, Jimmy help to create the makeup for the Ghost of
Jacob Marley in a Broadway production of A Christmas
Carol. Jimmy states, "My part for the Ghost of Jacob Marley makeup was lifecasting the actor, and
fabricating the foam latex appliances for the nose and chin. Paul
Kendel, the actor, applied the stage makeup himself for the shows.
I recommended the Telesis 5
Silicone Adhesive because I feel it is the best adhesive for foam latex and silicone
appliances. |
 |
13.) Jimmy
had the honor of having his Christmas Carol makeup depicted on the
giant billboard outside New York's Madison Square Garden. |
